After Divorce Check List
Five Things Every Divorcee Should Review
- Make sure to update your beneficiaries for your retirement accounts. For non-retirement accounts use Transfer on Death (TODs). For guidance, check out “Updating your Beneficiaries After Divorce: 6 Essential Steps.”
- Update your Estate Plan with an estate planning attorney.
- Look at a credit report to make sure there are no shared accounts or liabilities left after the divorce.
- Life Insurance – many divorce decrees include provisions around this. If it is required for alimony or child support, set it up so both parties receive duplicate paperwork.
- Create a Financial Plan based on your new chapter to help you take control of your finances.
